Safe Space in the Spotlight: Protecting Performers in Immersive Environments

Weds

Immersive experiences blur the boundaries between audience and performer, creating powerful moments — but also unique safeguarding challenges. Drawing on insights from managing The Paddington Bear Experience at London’s County Hall, this talk explores practical approaches to protecting performers in interactive settings. Topics include effective rule-setting with audiences, implementing safe-touch guidelines, and empowering performers with personal boundary-setting tools.

Leah also covers de-escalation training, a three-level incident code and support system, after-care processes, and broader considerations such as alcohol, and the challenges posed in low-light spaces. Learn strategies to create safe, respectful, and enjoyable immersive environments—for both audiences and performers alike.
